A jury in Los Angeles has ordered the rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, to pay $140,000 to a former project manager following a dispute over renovation work at his Malibu mansion The verdict was delivered in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday after a two-week trial
The lawsuit was filed by Tony Saxon, who managed aspects of the renovation of the $57 million beachfront property Ye purchased in 2021 In a civil complaint from September 2023, Saxon alleged he was not properly paid, was wrongfully terminated, and suffered serious injuries while working on the project According to the complaint, Saxon was hired in September 2021 to oversee the extensive renovation, which involved removing many of the home’s interior fixtures
Saxon initially sought $1.7 million in damages from the artist The jury, however, returned a much lower figure, awarding him $140,000 and declining to grant additional punitive damages The decision concludes a significant legal battle for the artist concerning the high-profile property.
