Leicester City name James McCarron sporting director in leadership restructure

Leicester City have appointed James McCarron as the club’s new sporting director as part of a leadership restructure. The club announced the move is intended to build a leadership framework that "best reflects the demands of the modern game". According to a club statement, the goal is to create a structure with "the specialisms necessary for us to excel in an increasingly competitive environment".

This appointment comes at a challenging time for Leicester, a decade after their historic Premier League title win. The club was recently docked six points for breaching financial regulations, a penalty which has left them in relegation danger and just one point from safety. Leicester City has appealed against the points deduction, with their profit and sustainability (PSR) concerns expected to be resolved once the outcome is known.

The club has been working to become more compliant with financial rules. Kevin Davies, who joined the club in 2023, represented Leicester in its PSR hearings with the Premier League and is credited with "steadying the ship" at the King Power Stadium. It is also believed that his work in improving compliance helped reduce the final punishment.
