NEW DELHI – The Indian government has authorised the temporary reintroduction of kerosene and coal as cooking options in response to disruptions in energy supplies from West Asia caused by military conflict The move is aimed at easing pressure on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, particularly for commercial establishments like eateries
A three-member committee of oil marketing companies has been established to manage the situation as the hotel and restaurant industry faces increasing strain According to officials, the government will supply limited quantities of alternative fuels to calm public concerns over shortages This development follows reports of vendors at food stalls resorting to coal-fired ovens amid a scarcity of commercial LPG cylinders
Speaking at the NXT Summit on the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi played down the severity of the supply issues, suggesting that concerns were being intentionally amplified "There are some people who are trying to create panic. They want to push their own agenda," Mr. Modi stated, without naming any specific individuals or groups He called for a collective national effort to address the challenges, stating, "We will have to make collective efforts, keeping the national interest supreme and fulfilling our duties" The Prime Minister’s comments contrast with the emergency measures being implemented by his government to mitigate the impact of the disrupted energy supplies on consumers and businesses across the country
