Scottish para-athlete Hope Gordon is set to transform a symbol of a difficult past into a stage for future triumph at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow The 31-year-old from Rogart has been confirmed as part of Team Scotland and will compete in para-powerlifting The competition holds profound personal significance for Gordon, as it will take place in the SEC Armadillo, a venue she remembers looking at for days on end from her window at the Yorkhill Children's Hospital as a teenager
Gordon's history with Glasgow is intertwined with her health journey, which included the amputation of her left leg Her athletic career began in other sports, including swimming, before she transitioned to powerlifting The opportunity to compete in the city represents a full-circle moment for the athlete. "To go from being that kid in that hospital bed, looking out of those windows, to actually being able to compete in that venue... it's going to be really special," Gordon told BBC Sport Scotland
Now, Gordon has the chance to create a new set of memories in Glasgow, aiming to, in her own words, "turn bad Glasgow memories into good ones" Her participation in the Games, which are scheduled for next summer, will not only be a showcase of her athletic prowess but also a testament to her resilience and a powerful story of redefining her personal history with the city
