DOHA, QATAR – Qatar announced on Tuesday the arrest of ten suspects belonging to two separate cells allegedly operating for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) The development comes amid a sharp escalation in regional tensions following the start of joint US-Israeli military strikes on Iran last Saturday
According to a report from the state-run Qatar News Agency (QNA), seven of the suspects were assigned to conduct espionage on “vital and military facilities” within Qatar, while the remaining three were tasked with carrying out sabotage operations
“During interrogation, the suspects admitted their affiliation with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and that they had been tasked with espionage missions and sabotage activities,” the QNA report stated
Qatari authorities seized communication devices, technological equipment, and the locations and coordinates of sensitive facilities that were allegedly in the suspects' possession The arrests were made as Tehran launched multiple retaliatory attacks on Qatar and other Gulf Arab nations in response to the US-Israeli military campaign The situation highlights the widening fallout of the direct confrontation between Iran and the US-Israel alliance, increasingly drawing in neighboring states.
