ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Foreign Office has confirmed it is officially engaging with China to address recent tensions and border hostilities with Afghanistan This diplomatic move highlights Beijing's growing influence in regional security matters and Islamabad's reliance on its long-standing strategic partner to navigate complex geopolitical challenges.

During a weekly press briefing, spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that high-level discussions are underway "We [Pakistan and China] cherish a long-standing strategic partnership, founded in mutual trust and deep respect," Andrabi said, adding that the two countries "enjoy unanimity of views on all issues, including with respect to Afghanistan" He emphasized that Afghanistan is a recurring subject in bilateral talks as well as in the trilateral dialogue framework involving both nations

The engagement follows a recent phone call between Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, where regional issues were discussed China's involvement is significant given its strategic interests in a stable Afghanistan, which borders its Xinjiang province and is a key area for regional connectivity.

By engaging Beijing, Pakistan aims to leverage its 'all-weather' partnership to manage the security situation on its western border. The outcome of these discussions could have significant implications for the stability of South and Central Asia, potentially shaping the future of trilateral cooperation between Pakistan, China, and the Taliban-led administration in Kabul
